Raised in Harlem, NY, she has broken down barriers in the construction industry as a safety professional and business owner. Crystal is a third-generation entrepreneur.

Crystal Turner-Moffatt is an accomplished professional with a profound impact on the realms of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH) as well as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Her journey as a Certified Expert in Construction and Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety, coupled with her role as a Leadership, Performance, and Possibility Coach, Trainer, Author, Speaker, Panelist, and Professional Consultant, exemplifies her dedication to driving excellence in these fields.

Professional Path and Achievements: Born and raised in Harlem, NY, Crystal’s career trajectory is one of breaking barriers and shattering norms in the male-dominated construction industry. She is the proud CEO/President of MWBE Certified Safety firm CDT EHS Consulting LLC, established in 2007. Through this venture and the teaching division, The Safety Diva’s™ Academy, Crystal offers expert and passionate consultation, fostering safety excellence and corporate growth. She has also pioneered CDT Performance Coaching, a division that guides CEOs and businesses to enhance performance using “Break Through and Performance Technology.”

Educational Pursuits: Crystal’s academic pursuits are just as impressive. An MS Ph.D. candidate at Capitol Technology University in Research Methods and Occupational Safety and Risk Management respectively, she also holds a Master of Science degree in Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences (EOHS) from Hunter College CUNY. Her dedication to education is evident in her recent capstone project, “THE SUCCESS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN VS. THEIR COUNTERPARTS IN THE PROFESSIONAL, SCIENTIFIC, TECHNICAL SERVICE INDUSTRY IN THE FIELD OF CONSTRUCTION SAFETY,” which delves into institutional and systemic challenges in diversity and inclusion. Her upcoming dissertation is entitled: “A New Paradigm for Access: The Five Pillars for Performance Necessary For Successfully Implementing a Safety Program That Leverages Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Organizational Integrity.”

Extensive Expertise: Crystal’s career spans over 25 years, during which she has showcased her proficiency as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Associate Safety Professional (ASP retired), Construction Health and Safety Technologist (CHST), and Construction Site Fire Safety Manager NYC NYPD (CSFSM). Her portfolio includes managing safety on multimillion-dollar construction, infrastructure, and environmental projects for government, insurance, and private-sector clients. She holds experience in diverse areas like bridge improvements, hazardous waste operations, clean water, and wastewater plant upgrades.

Advocacy and Recognition: A trailblazer in her own right, Crystal is recognized for her commitment to DEI, safety advocacy, and mentorship. She was a founding board member and advocate for The U.S. Coalition of Black Women Businesses (USCBWB), promoting social, health, and economic equity. She authored “The Power of Mentorship-Strengthening Women in Leadership Roles” (ASSP PSJ Aug. 2019) and has received several prestigious awards and scholarships, including being the first African American woman named President of the ASSP Platinum Hudson River Valley Chapter.

Holistic Approach and Vision: Crystal’s approach to life mirrors her holistic outlook on her profession. Balancing the demands of her vocation with a commitment to holistic well-being, she finds joy in her marriage to the love of her life Jayson, her rescue dog Kizzy, and her love for nature. With a heart for relaxation, spas, laughter, seafood, cooking, and travel, she lives life with a purposeful balance. Crystal’s “Vision” for the safety profession fuels her aspiration for a brighter and more inclusive future.

Diverse Expertise: Crystal is a certified expert in various domains, including Construction Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, Corporate Compliance, Toxicology, Bioterrorism Preparedness, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Research, and Development. With over 20 years of experience in multifaceted environments, she has established herself as a highly knowledgeable and skilled professional.

Impressive Credentials: As a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Safety Management Specialist (SMS), Associate Safety Professional (ASP retired), Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Senior Construction Safety Manager, and Construction Site Fire Safety Manager (CSFSM), Crystal’s credentials are extensive and diverse. Crystal enjoys networking and keeps abreast of safety knowledge through membership in national organizations such as The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), The American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), Black Women in Science and Engineering (BWISE), Professional Women In Construction (PWC), Founding Board Member of The U.S. Coalition of Black Women Businesses (USCBWB https://www.usbwb.org) advocating for The Power of SHE (Social, Health, and Economic Equity).  Crystal is the author of the Best Practices Article “The Power of Mentorship-Strengthening Women in Leadership Roles” found in The American Society of Safety Professional (ASSP) Professional Journal of Safety (PSJ) August 2019 issue. Crystal is an ASSP Foundation 2021 Greater Boston Chapter Leadership Award, Region VIII and 2022 Google Scholarship winner (Over $16K). Crystal is the First Female African American to be President of the ASSP Platinum Hudson River Valley Chapter.  She was the Blacks in Safety Excellence (BISE) Administrator (2019-2021), She is very social media savvy and was listed by Firmatek as a Top Workplace Safety Expert to Follow on Linked in and Twitter (2017). She is founder of The Linked in Group Women in Environmental Health & Safety with over 8000 members and The Construction Safety Group with over 4000 members. In 2019 Crystal was named by the ASSP Women in Safety Excellence (WISE) as Safety Professional of The Year (SPY), being the first African American Woman to receive this award.

One of her greatest joys is that Crystal is happily married to the love of her life Jayson Moffatt for almost 7 years, resides in Milford, CT, and has a sweet dog named Kizzy (a hound) who is a rescue dog and liver cancer survivor. It is obvious that for this “Safety Diva™” “Environmental Health and Safety is her passion.” With a demanding vocation, she maintains a Holistic approach to life and her profession. Balance is a Mind, Body, and Spirit at PEACE. She is extreme about the great stuff but maintains a balance and PEACE within. Although she is extremely engaged in Safety and DEI advocacy, she will make time for the right people, places, and things and stop to explore nature’s awesome wonders. Time is a precious commodity, and she is not into wasting it. She loves to relax and de-stress. She enjoys and loves Spas, laughter, seafood, cooking, and driving her car. She is adventurous and loves to Travel. She is thankful to the Safety Profession.  Her “Vision” for the profession fills her with pride and possibility for the future!  Look out for her book entitled:
